KOTA ISKANDAR, NUSAJAYA

Kota Iskandar was officially launched by Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the late Sultan of Johor on 19 April 2009. Kota Iskandar sits proudly on 320 acres of manicured gardens and parks. Magnificent to behold, it is an integrated development of meticulous planning and inspired design comprising the Johor State Government and Federal Government offices. The location of various component government complexes within one area is planned to facilitate efficiency of the government machinery befitting the status of a modern and progressive administration in a modern and smart city inspired by the best the world has to offer. Kota Iskandar will house more than 6,000 civil servants in 76 state and federal level government departments handling more than 1 million transactions a day.

The Johor State new administrative centre consists of the Bangunan Sultan Ismail – the Johor State Legislative Assembly Building; Bangunan Dato' Jaafar Muhammad – the Chief Minister & State Secretary Complex; Dataran Mahkota Plaza and the State Departments Complex.

1. LANGKAWI ISLAND

Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Permata Kedah) is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border. On 15 July 2008, Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah had consented to the change of name to Langkawi Permata Kedah in conjunction with his Golden Jubilee Celebration. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Pulau Langkawi with a population of some 64,792, the only other inhabited island being nearby Pulau Tuba. Langkawi is also an a dministrative district with the town of Kuah as largest town. Langkawi is a duty-free island.

2. PERHENTIAN ISLAND

The name "Perhentian" means "stopping point" in Malay, referring to the islands' traditional role as a way point for traders between Bangkok and Malaysia. The islands were sparsely inhabited by fishermen for centuries, although tourism now accounts for most economic activity. The Perhentian Islands appear on many maps of the nineteenth and twentieth century as 'The Station Islands'. This arises from the British colonial period, as an English translation of "stopping point". Pulau Perhentian was one of the islands where Vietnamese refugees or boat people landed during the 1970s.

3. TIOMAN ISLAND

Tioman Island (Malay language: Pulau Tioman) is a small island located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang, and is some 20 km long and 12 km wide. It has eight main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north. The densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular scuba diving spot. There are also a lot of resorts and chalets around the island which has duty-free status. Its beaches were depicted in the 1958 movie, South Pacific as Bali Hai. In the 1970s, TIME Magazine selected Tioman as one of the world's most beautiful islands.
